Oven cleaner works pretty well on stripping paint and cleaning. I used
several cans to clean and strip a 37mmAT gun. It worked best if applied
and left in place for 20 to 30 minutes with occasional scrubbing with
plastic "kitchen" brushes. Several applications were required to get
multiple layers of paint off.....but it worked very well.
