Does anyone know who this guy is or what he was driving?
I was down in West Palm Beach this week and saw this in the
Palm Beach Post. The article implies he was driving a "duck",
but doesn't ever say exactly what type of "amphibious car"
he was driving.

Amphibious car can't duck Delray police

DELRAY BEACH -- A man who deliberately drove his car into a lake Tuesday
wasn't crazy, but he was drunk, police say.

Donald Mack Roehrig of Boynton Beach was driving an amphibious car, one
designed to operate on land or in water, in Lake Ida Tuesday evening. When an
officer showed up and saw the yellow car floating in the water with its
engine running, he told Roehrig to return to shore, according to a police
report.

Roehrig, 40, appeared to be trying to flee until two off-duty law enforcement
officers in a boat approached the floating car in the water, according to the
report.

At that point, Roehrig said to the off-duty officers: "The cops are after us.
Do you have a beer?"

Roehrig's blood-alcohol level was measured as 0.165 percent and 0.175
percent, more than twice the level at which the state presumes a person is
too drunk to drive. He was charged with driving under the influence and for
having a license tag not assigned to the car.

He was also charged with tampering with a vehicle identification number. He
told an officer that he removed the dashboard and the number when he built
the car and didn't know where the original number was.

"We'll enforce drunk driving laws on land or on water," police spokesman Jeff
Messer said.

Roehrig was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail and was released Wednesday on
$1,000 bond.
