Jon,
A couple of things I encountered with customer's trucks was the long idling.
Another factor that contributes to unburned fuel entering the exhaust system
is a cold running engine. Keep the rpm's up, but below 1000, while warming
it up. Thanks to Listers, I was put onto the source of the problems. Less
idling and new thermostats took care of things. The problems were encountered
more often in non-turbo engines.
