I'm trying to remeMber my days with an AFBR unit (Assault Float Bridge-Ribbon).
These were the type of truck we used- modified 5-tons. A bit longer and wider
and had oversized tires on the front. They had a boom with winch on the back
for pulling the bridge sections onto the truck. The trucks used for the boats
had a cradle-type s/u for hauling the boats. Trucks could be used to haul
either bridge sections or boats. When not being used for those we had
platforms that could be placed on the back of the truck for cargo. The
platforms we had just turned the truck into a large 5-ton flatbed truck.

Hope this helps
Mark
