I'm giving everyone here first crack at this truck. I can't afford to
restore it and build a house at the same time...
Todd Shipyards of Seattle has expressed interest in it. Todd is the
company that did the
weird conversion in 1954. The conversion
would have to be dismantled (sawzall?) and pieces of panel side would
have to be fabricated to get back to Army Ambulance.
If you have any or all reference books on the subject, I'd appreciate
your looking for a 1939
Ford 1.5 ton Army Ambulance. Unless I'm very
mistaken, no such image in ANY book is shown. As far as I know, I own
the only period
image (1943 "YEAR" MAGAZINE).
There's also a shaky Nazi connection. Only a
few of these trucks were produced in 1939, yet
TWO are shown carting off electrocuted Nazi
spies that had landed and been captured on the
East Coast. Is mine one of these trucks? All
I can say is that with the "Year" magazine photo
and a restoration, you could have one damn fine display...
I've got four years of research (as anyone on this list can attest to)
in this truck.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own
a US military vehicle no one else has ever seen, never mind has owned.
What makes it military for sure? W numbers on hood and rear door,
dual windshield wipers, old OD paint. What makes it an ambulance?
W number starting with 7, optional most powerful V-8 (to go faster).
  Contact me off list.
