I know nothing about military generators, but for the record gas and diesel
welding machines made over 20 years ago usually had a 115 volt DC outlet on
them. Allot of side grinders are still made to run on AC or DC. I believe
in the good old days (long before I was a welder) a welder (the person) only
needed a cutting torch and a grinder. The machines were DC so the outlet
was DC for the power tools. They started putting converters on them quite a
while back so you would have an AC outlet for the tools on the DC welding
machine for stuff like band saws and fans. Sometimes a new kid would plug a
band saw into an old DC outlet and burn it up. All of those machines have
since been retired.
