Hello Geof Very interesting point
However, from my point of view... there are three sides to the story:

Side One - is your point !
And you do have a very good point to !
It's your buddy ...your loving adorable friend and companion.
You should be able to take that dog most places... especially into open
grassy fields. Even leashed or unleashed, depending on the good natured
dog.

Point Two, another side to the story.
How many times we've been out... and my kids have come into the house or
car with stinking dogs shit on their shoes and or clothes.
Yes, my kids, played outside and romped (just like you and your dog) ..too
often, unknowingly into a huge dog shit.

Geof, you may be a saint ... and I hope so. !
You may use a pooper scooper when in a public place
However, unfortunately there are a number of dog lovers that just don't
care.
From my experience, we were kids, we were taught to take our various
puppies / puppy outside to a designated spot near some trees and away from
the house. Therefore, with the puppy leashed or unleashed, we trained the
dog not to go just anywhere... in the middle of our large yard.
It's Just like us Humans do !
Unless they were sick, most of "our"dogs would burst before they would go
close to the house or inside. In fact just like Humans they would
immediately head for their
"spot"

My third point is the dead of night or alll day and every waking moment...
some dogs will yapp, yapp yapp all "effing" day !

While some owners will turn to their dogs and yell, "quiet Fido" !
A Nice Gesture ! Except that, the dog keeps on yapping and yapping
...constantly ! The owner pays lip service only, to a noisy lil' barker !
Just like "out of control children" ...there was no folow through with the
commands.

So Geof, call the organisers and ask what specifically were the dog problems
in the past.?

If they don't know, then they "must" direct you to a higher power, for a
specific answer. It just can't simply be "No Dogs Allowed" ...at this
years show !

I for one would like to hear an official answer from the organisers.
Finally Geof, in all things we should learn and except tolerance... when
it's the rules!
I feel you go to these shows and swap meets, not because it's an much needed
outing for your dog... but, because you love the enjoyment that you derive
from the hobby.

So, go enjoy the show and spend big as usual ...and express your concern to
every vendor, mark down their booth number and take a concensus that you can
take to the organisers for next years show !

BestRegards Geof , and go in fighting !
By the way, what is your pooch of choice ?
