Current issue Chemical Agent Detector is "Automatic Chemical Agent Detector
Alarm" (ACADA), currently being manufactured by Graseby their designation is
"GID-3". The "alarm" part is the M48 Chemical Agent Alarm.
It has a small amount of ionizing radiation (Americium) similar to a smoke
detector, they are tightly controlled because of this so doubt if they will
be surplused.
I have only seen them mounted on externally, usually upper rear of HMMWVs
that have S700 series shelters (manufactured by Marion or Gichner). In the
mount they occupy a space about 12 x 12 x 20 inches. The M48 is inside and
is about 10 x 8 x 4 inches. Measurements are approx but are probably close

Can anyone out there tell me what is the correct designator, name or
description of the Chemical Detector Alarm Unit used in military vehicles
such as the CUCV and Humvee. I found a military unit described as Alarm,
Chemical Agent, Automatic AN/PSR-2. I don't know if this is the correct
unit for a military vehicle. Thanks for any assistance. Kevin MVPA #8173
