M35 heater duct work

I just completed the installation of a NOS hot water heater for my
deuce. Actually, I thought I was done, but I am not.

Has anyone had any experience with, or know how to repair the sheet
metal part of the defroster on an M35? It appears that water that leaked
down the defroster vent due to a leaking windshield, has caused the
metal section of the defroster (behind the dash) to corrode to the point
that there is very little metal left to direct the airflow. The elbow
where the defroster hose connects to the defroster vent is completely
intact, and is not the problem. It is the sheet metal above this area
that is in need of repair.

Is there a way to get this down? Even lying on my old back, under the
dash I have not been able to see a way how to remove this section of the
dash.

Thanks,
