RE; 3 part post. Oroville - Woodson Bridge - MV Convoy

1st Event: Oroville, CA About 1 hr. 10 minutes north of Sacramento on
Hwy. 70. Not far from I-5. Scenic valley, surround by foothills, river and
lake. Clean, grassy, secure, full facilities with hot showers, even washers
and dryers on site! 6 min. away from restaurants, shopping, theaters, etc.

What a great event this was and right up to the last day! My compliments to
the MVCC, Pat Thelander and the Sidenglanz family and their staff for their
time, generosity, hard work and planning. They could not have made it
easier nor more fun. Hats off.

In one line: "Best time I have had at any MV event from Oregon to Big
Bear."

Free no hassles parking and camping with great camp sites. Saturday night a
free tri-tip dinner in a huge open air amphitheater with about 100,000 white
mini lights overhead! Really well done and excellent table settings. But it
didn't stop there. Free wine, and very good wine too, I checked the price
($8 a bottle) 2 bottles at every table. A professional 17 piece swing band
doing WWII songs and the singers... they were hot! Got any of this at
Beltring? OK, Beltring shall safely remain the worlds best MV event for its
enormity if nothing else, but for princely accommodations this regional
event at Oroville was pretty awesome.

A vehicle tour left early Saturday morning that included some of the local
sights like the fish hatchery with underwater viewing windows on the fish
ladder. Salmon were running too. Carl Thompson had a chance to demonstrate
the climbing abilities of his mint condition Pinz. At one point he crossed
over at a 45 degree angle a 6X3 foot deep ditch with one rear wheel at least
2 feet up in the air, looked scary, bout it as the Pinz handled it easily.
I wasn't present, just saw the pic. I was nearby at a soccer match for
Grandson or my Valp would have given it a go too.

Idea: Next year this should include a layover and lunch at the Oroville Dam
so the vehicles can hang out long enough to be seen by the visiting
sightseers that would otherwise not be aware of the event. I've long
believed an opportunity is missed if we don't put these vehicle out to
public, taking advantage of a second site while doing these swap meet
events, if only for a few hours.

If you are close enough to attend Woodson Bridge, then you really want to
attend the next Oroville event, its probably easier to reach form most as
its closer to Sacramento by about 50 miles. Its you could want in an MV
event and its growing exponentially thanks to the MVCC and the Sidenglanz
family.

Check the Surplus City web site for details and mark your calendar, you will
not be disappointed. Oh and one last thing, unlike Woodson's a lot of
people were still on hand Sunday morning for the free breakfast! I've
always felt Sat and Sun were key days for working people, but too many
vendors pull up stakes starting Sat.!

NEXT EVENT COMING UP: Woodson Bridge, new time, Oct. 3rd - 5th. From the
MVPA board: "Annual California Chapter Military Vehicle Collectors swap
meet and military show at Woodson Bridge RV Park, Corning, CA. Contact: Pat
Thelander; (530) 533-6795, ptheland@cncnet.com (event) or (530) 839-2151
(park reservations). "

Woodson's has been on going for years, the oldest continious MV event that I
have attended in Northern Calif. It is located about 35 min. (28 miles)
north of Chico, CA. off I-5 and Hwy 99. (114 miles north of Sacramento).
Nearest town is Corning, about 10 minutes away. Peak day is Friday.
Traditional MV run takes you through Corning (pop. about 20,000) with brief
on-your-own stops at several popular eating/shopping facilities. If you
like olives, this is the world's capital for olives and what you can do to
them. If its an edible version of an olive, they have it. Pickled peppers
too..now say that real fast 10 times.

SUGGESTION: How about forming an MV CONVOY to Woodsons? Anyone interested
in meeting up along I-5 at various rest stops from SF to Corning? We have
times for a possible Thursday convoy date. Do you have any suggestions,
open to hearing them.

The tennative meeting locations along I-5 are:

Route Rest Stop Name
Distance

 I-5 Coalinga-Avenal
313.0 miles

 I-5 No name
249.0 miles

 I-5 Westley

I-80 No name
138.6 miles

I-5 Dunnigan
86.6 miles

Usual disclaimers... I have no official connection to the above events, just
