Brakes

Hi,
Interesting (M35)brake discussion!
Perhaps I may add a few words.
The air-pac has a lube opening in the back. It's an 1/8" pipe plug that
comes out and you just squirt a little pneumatic oil into the large cylinder
once a year to keep the valves from sticking. When the air exhausts, it
lubricates the valves. Some LO's don't even mention the air-pac, so there is
no wonder that so many are "rusted" up.
These vehicles were designed to be maintained and, in my humble opinion, are
very maintenance friendly.
With the brakes maintained properly they work very well indeed, the air
assist puts some 2,000 psi on the wheel cylinders. Without the air the
pressure is somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 psi, not enough for a safe
stop.
Cheers,
Bjorn
