I want thank everyone who's taken the time to comment on my engine
dilemma. Your advice has led me to learn a great deal about not only my
engine, but m37 engines in general. Many have commented that it sounds
like my engine has been converted to a 12v system. I'm not a purist, and
as long as the engine will run, I'm happy. I suppose having a 12v system
makes things a little easier to work on? I can just head to my nearest NAPA
and pick up a few parts?

My question is, how can I tell and be sure if the system is a 12v or 24v
system? When I purchased the truck there were two dead batteries under the
seat, and both were hooked up. Can a 24v system work without the original
waterproof distributor? Would I purchase a 24v coil? I've read through
many of the manuals and I don't see a procedure for converting the
system. If there is someone out there who has converted theirs and knows
the steps by heart, could you give some general instructions so I know what
I'm up against? Alan Bowes provided a link with some excellent articles
concerning repair and rebuilding. Does anyone know a link that has an
article for successfully diagnosing the system and converting it? Someone
mentioned 'welcome to the world of military vehicles' hehe.. thanks ;)
