deuce transfer case PTO question

On deuces with transfer case PTO's there are two possible locations for the control levers. The "normal" location is behind and to the left of the driver's seat. However, the Signal Corps trucks (V17A/MTQ, V18A/MTQ,M763,M764) have the PTO control levers located to the left of the driver's seat, but near the driver's knee.

Has anyone on the list added the second type to a truck not previously equipped with it? Any tips?

Also, anyone know of any of these type trucks in salvage yards?
