I have an M51 gas.

It is unlikely that the oil in the engine compartment is from the hydraulic system. The pump and reservoir are under the bed. That is probably engine oil or
power steering oil (the PS uses Motor oil).

I'd drive it and see how it runs. I think they are good trucks. The only consistent problems seems to be wheel oil seals. But those seem to be a problem for a
lot of 2 1/2 and 5 ton trucks period.

The M51s are serously overbuilt. As long as it hasn't been really abused and it doesn't sound like it has, it should be fine.

Prices - depends on who wants to buy it and who is around. I'd say 5K - 13K. Again it depends on who bids and how much they want it.
