A 5/4 ton is a ton an a quarter truck such as the 715/725 Kaiser jeep or
Dodge 880 series. It is more or less a GCVW rating and in most cases means
nothing.
For instance a 1948 Dodge Power Wagon is a 1ton rated truck but no different
than a 3/4 ton 1943 WC 52 in suspension construction.Furthermore military
rigs usually have an over the road rating and a cross country rating cross
country being less due to the added stress of rough terrain.
Basically the contract called for 5/4 ton so they wrote it on the build
sheets that way.
