Recruiting Our Youth

In my comments about joining the MVPA before before trying to find a "cheap"
MV, I received about 12 replies in a positive fashion. Two commented about
trying to encourage new MV'ers. I agree. In my moment on the soapbox that
day, it just never ceases to amaze me that some people still think that you
can buy valuable items from the gov't for nothing. I think that anyone who
wants a vehicle should first join the MVPA, (once they find out about it)
then decide what they want instead of trying to figure out that the gov't
doesn't sell certain types of vehicles outright or think they are $500.
They don't want a NEW engine form the dealer, they want a "new surplus" one
that should be $200 or less just like the parts dealers don't know about
this or haven't figured it out!! Ebay (or some call it "EvilBay") certainly
has raised the prices on just about everything and making some items even
unaffordable anymore.

On the other extreme side of the coin, the only other thing that rubs
my fur the other way is someone trying to sell an item for 2-4 times the
going rate and telling you in the ad that "NO MORE WILL EVER BE RELEASED
AGAIN" (like they would really know anyway) or how about the Humvee in the
last issue of MV that says: "There are all kinds of deals on Humvees but
talk to the buyers, all kinds of problems". WELLLLL, IS THAT SO?! BS is
all that is!! I suppose he's trying to tell us that he has the ONLY Humvee
with no problems. (More BS) I got news for that guy, everyone who bought
one of those Atlanta Hummers was very pleased with what they bought to
include myself with the 5 I bought. I didn't pay $55K each for them either
like he's wanting for his.

I have noticed that the attendance at the radio
collectors'/military/collectables meets has dwindled down considerably.
Notice the age group which shows up at meets-this is not encouraging either.
There doesn't seem to be many young folks there. Has MTV and Nintendo taken
over our youth? If you notice, our youth seems to be dressing, acting and
talking like other ethnic groups just like on MTV. Don't know what side of
their head hats are supposed to be worn on either. If you watch MTV long
enough, you'll also know how to shoplift and do other goofy/felony things
like the show "Jackass" portrayed. It would be nice if we could get our
youth to indulge in other worthwhile hobbies such as collecting stuff,
fishing and others. I don't have an answer for this one myself.

Any ideas out there to get our youth interested in better directions
such as the MV hobby? Your MV nut, Julian Burke
