Many of these are from Canada and the UK they were made for retro fit on
vehicles in a war zone that would need to be blacked out to operate after
sundown.
I have several different versions of these and have a small collection of
them started they all have a 3/8 inch flanged edge to fit between the
retaining ring and headlight bulb and come with sealant that looks like
thick tar.
In England during the Blitz Doctors cars and fire trucks would get these as
a retro fit I have some made by Sterling and a few by Rolls Royce these are
very large 8 inches in Diameter.
I have a couple built by Chevrolet in Canada that are 4 inches in diameter.
Some were made with cut glass inserts with shutters and a lever on the side
so you could completely black them out.
I recently saw a 40's Columbia bicycle at a swap meet with a small head
light that had a black out hood and shutters looked like a retro fit of the
early Dodge WC 1/2 ton lights except it was slightly larger and flat on the
back not tear drop shaped.
The gentlemen told me the bike was from Hawaii which also had blackout laws
imposed after the attack by the Japanese.

I hopes this helps I would like to see a picture of the one you have.

Cheers

Subject: [MV] Blackout Cover

Listers..

I have just received a blackout headlight cover but am wondering what it is
off of.
I will explain it as best i can, but for those that think they may be able
to help, i can send a schematic of the cover..

The item is rectangular in shape and 125mm long and 54 mm high. It has four
holes for mounting (I presume to a circular metal disc) to be placed in a
headlight bucket. There is a rectangular glass lens that fits inside the
moulding therefore making a blackout light..
