Ok, time for the old retired tanker to come back to life on the net!

The M1 has a governor on it's engine to only allow a max speed of 42 on the
M1A1. Reality is 40 down a road.

Now then, the original M1 with the 105 mm gun was much lighter than the
current M1A1 in its many variations, and was governed at 45.

The 40 on the current M1 isn't as easy to achieve,and the tank never seemed
as agile and peppy as the original M1.

When we were testing the M1 at Know in the late '70s, it could easily
achieve speeds in excess of 100MPH in a straight line on a hard road.
