The Detroit is a positive locking differential that permits all wheels to
pull but unlocks so you can turn. Even if one tire is off the ground, the
other
tire on that axle will move the truck. In essence, true all wheel drive.
Installation; pull diff assy from housing. Pull carrier and ring gear from
assy. Split carrier case and remove spiders axle gears and cross shaft.
Install
Detroit. Basically it replaces the spiders cross shaft and axle gears in the
case itself. TM9-8000 has a good description and explanation of locker
theories.
