Hi Aaron and fellow shipmates,
Yes I do use a DUKW at sea,
at Hunstanton , north Norfolk , England . It is powered by a ford 6 pot
diesel . With a flat bottom , no keel and a flat bow it is verymuch a truck
not a boat . It pitches some and rolls badly , it`s ability to hold a course
is poor and it is very slow to respond to the helm . It`s alot quicker than
swimming and most of the time you don`t get wet . IF you want a boat with
wheels then come see the LARC XV {15} , still flat bottomed but triple
rudder surfaces , 4 wheel steer and 600 horses make it nimble on shore ,
with a fair turn of speed and good steering at sea . Ours #74 built 1966 is
21 tons of mostly aluminium , has a hull as good as the day it was made ,
it`s like new .

                                                                    Fair
Thee Well Noel
