New TUM (FFR) Contract goes to Pinzgauer

The UK Ministry of Defence has awarded the £20 million plus contract for its
new TUM (FFR) (Fitted for Radio) fleet to Automotive Technik, for the supply
of its Pinzgauer 4x4 variant. The contract, for approaching 400 vehicles, is
the largest single order to have been won by the company since it took over
worldwide production of the vehicle, now built exclusively in Britain.

The vehicles, which will enter service with the British Army from 2004, are
based on the Pinzgauer 716 MK model, a 4x4 general service hard-top variant.
The units are also earmarked to carry the Bowman radio communications
system.

The contract was formally announced and presented to Automotive Technik by
Lord Willy Bach, Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Defence Procurement) today,
1st July 2003, at the Defence Vehicle Dynamics Exhibition at Millbrook. The
event is held annually under the auspices of the Integrated Project Team for
Combat Support Vehicles, Light (CSVL), of the MoD Defence Procurement
Agency.

Commenting on the contract award, ATL Director, David Findlay said, "We are
extremely pleased to have received this valuable contract from the UK MoD.
It confirms the Pinzgauer as the vehicle of choice for the highly mobile,
rapid response troops that have seen action in many areas around the world.
Our home customer has clearly demonstrated their confidence in the Pinzgauer
’s proven ability and outstanding performance and we are now well placed to
position the Pinzgauer for a bigger slice of the world market".

Production of the new TUM (FFR) vehicles will start in October at ATL’s
facilities in Guildford and Fareham and will result in additional jobs at
both locations.
