Hey guys,
I have been having a real problem with generator 2 on my '84 CUCV. It keeps
breaking or burning the wire off one of the brushes. A starter/generator
repairman told me that happens with a bad regulator. So I replace the
brushes, reg, and diode trio. That fixed the problem, but then a week
later, it happened again. Then I found that my gen 2 mount was cracked so I
welded it and replaced the brushes/holder, reg, and trio again. It worked
great for a week or so and then it happened again. So, I took it to a very
good gen/starter shop in the area. They looked it all over and said that
one of the brush wires just broke off. The replaced the brushes, checked
the trio and reg and they were both fine. Once again, it worked for a
while, then quit again. I'm really getting tired of this crap. Do any of
you guys have any thoughts. I was looking at the TM today and saw that
there is a gen 2 relay on that relay rack under the dash. Could that have
something to do with it? Thanks for any help.
