5 ton trucks

Hello list. We just bought a M543 cab and chassis from GSA and have found a
M51 parts truck we are considering purchasing. I was wondering how much of
the drive line in these two trucks are interchangeable? The wrecker has a
Mack engine and the dump truck has a multifuel. We are mostly interested in
the rear axles and the dump body from the parts truck. Are these axles
geared the same? I think the wrecker is slower, but is that because of the
transmission or engine?

Also, sorry if I haven't gotten back to some of you folks lately, my
computer is sick and I am using the back up.

And for you adventure minded people, I picked up the 5 ton on a trailer
behind my deuce about 145 miles away. Used 20 gallons of fuel going up, 28
coming back. Overall a safe trip and decent speed. Light traffic on the
interstate. Air brakes on the trailer, so it stopped quite well.
