The #4 mark 1, is a Short Magazine Lee Enfield "SMLE" .303 British Rifle! It
was made by Savage Arms for export to Britain under Lend Lease, during WWII.
Because they were made in this country and exported, they were required to
be marked U.S. Property! You should see what looks like an asterisk next to
the marking that says U.S. Property. That is what is the best clue to the
origin of the rifle! The .303 British round is very similar to our .30-06 in
performance!
