Sorry, I did not know officers could drive; all the time I was in U S Army
all the officers (Capt. and above) on post where I was had drivers, I just
supposed officers could not drive. I worked directly for a Major who had
car (1950 4 dr Chevy.) and driver (Cpl. ) car sat in special place on
parking lot. When the Major wanted to go somewhere, called down to guard
house at office entrance and they sent for driver and car. I have known of
him sitting in car all day lots of days - get it at motor pool at 7 drive to
office, sit outside office until lunch, lock car, walk to mess hall, after
telling guard where he was going, come back after lunch, sit in car until 6,
take it to motor pool and turn it in.

Capt. and below used the military public transpiration we had on post.
