M35 yet again.... :-)

So today, I went and tried to get my filters. The store carries wix,
and they only had the primary (# from Marks site) and one secondary.
Secondary filter looked to have sat on their shelf for 20 years... :-)
he said that he could have me 2 secondary (new ones) by 5pm, so I said
go for it. Went home, and started to put the primary in. Upon getting
the old one out, it appears that it started to collapse. Started
comparing the 2 filters, I saw what mark was talking about with the Wix
not being quite right. Mil spec filter has 2 metal plates, one on each
end that are removeable. New one was different with a cork gasket top
and bottom. I was concerned until I started to look. The metal plates
on the Mil spec are the sealing surfaces. I was able to use the wix
with a little extra care installing just to make sure that it went in
centered. I didn't have the other filters yet, so I decided to prime
this one and see what I had. Truck seems to idle better, and has some
more pickup. The flat spot appears gone. Truck seems to run better
with just the primary, but I will put the other 2 filters in hopefully
tomorrow. I did notice when I was under the front, that it appears that
someone has jacked the truck by the crossmember under the radiator,
right where the main fuel line goes from the primary to secondary
filter. The line is almost crushed flat... it's a wonder the truck can
even run. It would be interesting to hear if anyone else has this
problem? And thoughts on if I should waste my time replaceing it, cuz
it doesn't leak.

Another thing I noticed after dark... The brake lights don't always
work. If I push down extremely hard on the pedal I can get them to come
on, but that would send me through the windshield during normal driving.
Is there any sort of adjustment on the light switch?

I am very happy with the truck so far, and enjoy every bit of driving
it.

Mike
