I'd like to see that GL5 spec sheet for the
particular oil. GL-X is not a formulation spec,
rather it's a performance spec. One GL-5 might be
safe, another may not be. The anti-corrosives
that were added to help the engines overall, but
are harmful to yellow metals post date the
manuals for the old vehicles.

Old crusty fitters on the Dingo list have
mentioned this as a problem as well. Dingos have
quite a few more bearings than your average jeep.

As I understand it, it's a question of active vs
inactive sulfur compounds. Its not if sulfur is
present, rather, is it free to react.
