Jon is right on the money, here.
The key to survival is prevention in these circumstances. Light your
vehicles, even if it means a traffic stop by an over-zealous law-enforcer
for the lights. A short explanation will do the trick. The first mod to my
M35 and HMMWV is lighting for each.
Having been on the receiving end of way too many accident victims, it has
become clear that noone is safer getting thrown from the vehicle. Ever.
It's pure fallacy.
