RE: [MV] GL

When I registered my M35 here in NY, there was a form that had to be
filled out for the dmv to collect the tax from GL. I did not have to
pay sales tax again at the DMV. For that matter, I registered as
agriculture, and the lady at the DMV told me that I could even file to
get that tax $$ back being an ag vehicle.

Gene,

Here is a reply that I received from Gl in January regarding the sales
tax issue. At the bottom of his reply is the question that I posed to
him.

"Mr. Souza:

Thank you for your interest in vehicle auctions from Government
Liquidation. Government Liquidation is obligated to charge sales tax
on
all items sold, unless the buyer is tax exempt. Re-sellers would be
an
example of an exempt buyer.

The tax you describe at the DMV would be a vehicle license tax, not
additional sales tax. Please let me know if this explanation has
answered
your questions. Otherwise, please feel free to contact me again for a
more
detailed explanation.

Best regards,

Hunter

Hello,

I hear rumors that GL charges sales tax on every item including
vehicles? Is this correct?

I live in California and have to pay sales tax to the CA DMV when I
transfer the vehicle. Why would I have to pay taxes on the same
vehicle
twice. Especially the ones that GL would issue a Form 97. I can
understand being required to pay taxes a vehicle that no Form 97 is
issued. It would be considered a pile of parts.

I have read the website about being exempt from paying taxes. I do
not
claim to be exempt from paying taxes. I just want to pay tax on the
same item once. Every other auction I have bought vehicles from, I
have
never paid taxes on the vehicles. I pay the sales tax at the time
that
I register them at the CA DMV.

Can you clarify this?

Awaiting your reply,

remember all the hullabaloo over the GL and TAXES.. They were charging
TAXES
for vehicles..and then when the "buyer" went to register..they paid
"taxes"
again..cause GL did not report they had already taken the money ???? It
is
fact. They can hummm and hahhh all they want and give all sorts of
stories..but, they are full of it. It is true.. I do not know whether
or not
they have that all straightened out..but, it sure caused a lot of grief
for
quite a few people....
The State of WI /MN was supposed to be starting some sort of suite
against
GL.??? Did that ever happen.??? They (GL) were not paying the taxes to
the
States - that the buyer paid to GL.
