Interesting CUCV twist

It seems that the 4x4 community are scrapping the M1008 trucks and such as
quick as they can get them for the Dana 60 front axles and the 14 Bolt FF rears.
An interesting version of M1008 showed up on Ebay a few months ago. It was
an M1008 with the smaller (highway geared) M1009 axles in it. If somebody
wanted to use the M1008 as a runaround without hauling tons of stuff in it, this
could be a cool way to improve that mileage over the stock 4.56 gearing. As
most know the axles are a bolt in and the M1009 gearing is an anemic (but
economical) 3.08 ratio. Not exactly right but pure military and a boatload of new
axles were recently released from the Gov't. Something to think about!
