I've test-run them on the stand with only the flex plate for short periods
with no ill-effects, and yup, the starter bolts to the block in the
traditional Chevy fashion. I've got another one still installed in an M1008
without a transmission that I intent to run in place to test it, though I
think I'll make sure the engine alignment without tranny won't cause the fan
blades to nuke the fan shroud first. I can't remember how much clearance
there is off the top of my head.
