There is a product which comes in 1-gal cans, with
a little dip-basket, for cleaning carb-parts. It works
VERY well. It'll also take paint off anything <g>

It's about 17 bucks a gallon. My guess is that if you
get a fresh gallon, pour it in the tank (with all ports
sealed) and swish it all around for 15 minutes, it'd
clean all the varnish out for you.

Alternatively, if you have a cleanout-port or sender
port which is big enough to snake a hand into, I'd
just sandblast it quickly.
