The metal bucket is for cleaning the weapons. Bore cleaner is best, if
available. Hot water and Soda Ash was also used, as was hot soapy water.

Many of the vehicles, if not all, with large caliber weapons, or multiple gun
mounts, also had a bucket mounted somewhere.
