Hi Brian,
The smoke you describe is an indication of unburnt fuel / oil
. Low compression pressure is one cause . Rings or Valves stuck /sticking ?
Injector pump timing WAY OUT ! Try advancing the timing !
Injectors squirting rather than spraying , unlikely as your using rebuilds
? The injectors set the injection pressure , normally , the pump says when !
With the right gear compression and timing can be tested without dismantling
.
Could be the pump . but I would check the rest first .
