RE: [MV] fuel

There is and it's a big deal now in England. Do a google search and you can
read all about it. The stuff is sold and added to the Ruby Red diesel and
it eliminates the red dye which is a form of phenyl-pthalene via a
precipitative reaction. Unfortunately the chemical is corrosive and
eventually causes problems for the fuel system. In Ireland the thing going
around is a colored dye that you add to the red diesel that in turn changes
the color to a brownish green sort of matching the yellow-green diesel tint
of some companies. In both cases the taxes are very high and the incentive
is great to evade. The invisible chemical marker is going into widespread
use now in the EU. All this info is available on the US IRS website,
reporting testimony before Congress on the problem.

seems there would be a way to filter or somehow remove the dye? I'm sure
there is a brilliant chemist in our group. Any thoughts, Henry

Biodiesel B20 or B100 is not dyed. It is taxed for road use for highway
maintenance if you buy it at the retailer. If you make it yourself it would
also be non dyed and at the present it is ignored. Diesel #2 dyed fuel runs
fine in the truck. It is just the EPA and IRS issues that arise. Sulphur
and taxes. Glenn

So what about the guys running bio diesel? Do they dye that?

I know a contractor who fueled a small fleet of service trucks w/ heating
oil. What are the pluses and minuses (other than legal) of operating that
in a diesel?

Someone on the list, maybe Bjorn, is mixing veg oil w/ diesel. I wonder how
the power is w/ that combination.
