Good Morning fellas ,
It`s that time of year , again and a recent
mention of flame heaters reminds me .
Before the days of glow plugs , there was a device called the THERMO START
{heater plug },{in the UK } This ingenious device was a small electric
heating coil that operated a valve to let fuel flow over and ignite ,
thereby warming the incoming air. It was simply screwed{7/8UNF 14 } into the
inlet manifold and gravity fed from a small reservoir of fuel . Drawing
about 10 amps it did not require a relay , just a good push button switch
also it did not use a timer that could go wrong , just count to twenty ---
or thirty on a very cold morning .
The good news is they are still made and in 12 & 24 V at about £12 , Forget
the ether {please forget the ether } and fit one of these, you will not be
sorry !

another trick is to stick a hair drier in the intake , {NO I don`t use one
to dry my hair } .

Best wishes all Noel
