Regardless of what the military uses, from a fire-fighting point of view
the most economical and longest lasting extinguisher would be a 5lbs BC
type. Sodium Bi-carb will not damage electrical parts but it will
successfully put out engine fires from electrical or fuel related
issues. The only thing a BC will not do is stall a running engine
without destroying it. I know we've used CO2 extinguishers to shut down
run-away diesels before when we couldn't get to the shut down switch or
didn't know where it was.
