"Stargate" has used a variety of local military vehicles throughout they're,
what - nine seasons? The vehicles mainly come from companies owned by area
MVPA members and have included a Mk II Ferret (owned by the BC Regiment
Museum Association but restored and maintained by local MVPA members), a
1962 German 5-ton M.A.N., a couple of 1962-ish 1/4 ton Auto Union Mungas, a
couple of ex-GATES Shilo German 1/2 ton Iltises, and a Cadillac-Gage
V100/M706 Commando. I think they also used a Chenoweth FAV owned by a local
collector in one ep too, but I've never seen that one personally.

If anyone caught Steven Spielberg's alien-centered "Taken" miniseries, that
was all local stuff too. It would've been nice to be able to provide all
genuine WWII equipment in the sizes they wanted for the early eps, but
unfortunately the timeframe and budget didn't permit, so we wound up using a
WC-52, WC-54 and M16 halftrack from local collectors in addition to a few
'made up' vehicles with modified grillwork, markings and paint. You don't
get to see much of any of them on the finished product (with the halftrack
chopped out completely, as I recall), and what you do get to see is pretty
much the suggestion of a vehicle in the distance with a white star in the
right spot. It was a lot easier when we got to the 50's and 60's, but still
the timeframe constraints contributed to one of the worst 24087 paint jobs
ever inflicted on an M220 Shop Van and stick-on vinyl markings it would've
been nice to fine-tune a bit (the graphics guy really burned the midnight
oil to get the lettering done on time though, so cheers to him.)

If anyone managed to catch the Jon Voight miniseries "Five People You Meet
in Heaven" recently aired, all those vehicles were local people too. The
"Japanese" truck that they thieve was actually a CMP Ford F8 (Canadian) with
Japanese markings - Japanese markings I made up at 6 am using a bit of
guesswork and a page from a U.S. Army WWII manual on the Japanese Military
blown up to a size I could crib the lettering from. It says "5th Engineer
Regiment" or something which was an actual Japanese unit in that AO at the
time, and I nearly forgot to remove the sign when the truck went in the
Remembrance Day parade on Nov. 11th! I'm sure the vets would not have been
amused. :) Esp. the Hong Kong garrison variety.

BTW, if you like horror flicks there's a big-budget feature about to hit the
theatre circuit (Jan. 28th) called "Alone in the Dark". That's all local
stuff too. I had the 8-wheel drive Coyote/Striker prototype out there along
with a bunch of HMMWVs and I think we shot enough blanks over several nights
to cast a 12ft. bust of Richard Nixon out of the leftover brass.
