need advice on brakes of M105 trailer

Well it looks like I may have a problem with the M105 trailer.
The trailer has two air hoses. When I connect them as shown in TM
9-2330-213-14&P, I notice that the brakes seem to engage and it
is impossible to move.

I do not have the lines crossed, the manual is specific, right to
right, left to left. The red line goes to the deuce's service
connection, and the yellow one to the deuce's pressurized air
supply connection.

If I remove the hoses, the brakes are disengaged and I can tow
the trailer.

I heard a hissing noise and upon looking under the trailer more
closely, found that the small air tank which seems to be part
this assembly that receives both air lines, and has a line going
back toward the rear where there is a diaphram-looking assembly
that apparently feeds the wheel cylinders.

I found the tank drain petcock to be broken. The situation did
not improve when I stopped the leak.

What could I be doing wrong?
