Hi Claude!
You have a bad fuel pressure switch in the Stanadyne 80 fuel filter base.
Under square filter it is round with 2 wires, and held in place with round
spring clip. They become cracked with age and leak air & fuel. Know
problem by military. Good Luck!

Subject: [MV] RE : [MV] CUCV Starting problem

Bruce,
My experience in France on my M1009:
-I had quite same problem in the past
-I solve the problem by keeping the fuel tank in the range full to half full
and by keeping the filling plug loose(1/4 turn)
-My explanation: when you run the level in fuel tank decrease and create
vaccuum in the tank. Then when you stop for quite a long time, air is coming
in the fuel line if you have some leaks on the line because this line is at
the time under vaccuum (or leaks on check valves of the the fuel pump)
Hope it help you
Claude (M1009)

Hi All,
I am guessing that this is just a dirty fuel filter, but since I
replaced it about 6 months ago,
I am starting to wonder.
Here are the symptoms. If the truck has been standing over night, (I
don't let it sit down on the job), It starts right away, runs for about
20 seconds, and then quits. If I feed it fuel and run the starter for what
feels like a long time, it starts, and then races, (because I
am afraid to let off on the fuel right away).

It is then ok for the rest of the day. ie: I drive to work and then it
starts right up when I get ready
to go home.

If this looks like it is not just a filter problem, I'd be glad to hear
from someone, since if I need to
get something in addition to the filter tomorrow, I'll be prepared.

Thanks as always,
Bruce MVPA 23824
