IR headlights are not normally mounted on Humvees. Usually only on armor.
The Blackout light is standard. It has only 1 lead which is B+ and the
mount is ground. However some pathfinder and special ops humvees do have IR
headlights mounted which is what I assume you are doing. The bulb inside is
a single filament 24 volt PAR 36 flood bulb and each terminal is brought out
to the 2 rubber packard connectors. This is due to the rubber vibration
mount requiring a separate ground. You can confirm by putting an ohm meter
from the lamp case to either lead. It should read infinity or open. There
is no polarity, it can go either way. 1 lead is B+ and the other will be
ground. Sometimes these are mounted by SOC units in place of the normal
blackout lamp. Other times they are mounted on the grill guard etc. When
you turn the IR lamp on you will only barely see something if you get close
to the lamp and look at it, but with goggles it will be like regualr
headlights when driving.

Can someone please tell me the correct wiring for the IR light that is
normally mounted on the HUMVEE? It's like a small spotlight and has two
wires coming out of the rear bottom of the assembly. I am assuming that one
is positive and one is negative but want to make sure BEFORE applying power
and hearing a zap and seeing the dreaded smoke curling up from the melted
assembly!
It could also be that one wire is for a "high beam" and one wire is for a
"low beam" since the base of the mount is in full contact with the metal of
the brush guard and can act very well as a ground???? That really doesn't
make much sense though since the sealed beam only has one element and two
would be required for a duel beam..........
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!! I'm trying to get this wired up for this weekends
trip into the woods and would like very much to see how it works in the
field. I do have the proper night vision driving headset to be able to use
it.
