Earl,

I have an M51 gasser and the drivetrain does make a lot of noise, but I
couldn't describe it as screaming. If I were you I would be tempted to
disconnect some drive shafts and see if you can isolate it to one thing.
     Or at least the tranfer case versus the transmission, etc. If you
drop both driveshafts coming out of the transfer case and it still
screams running in place running in gear, the you are a lot closer to
the problem. After that it shouldn't be hard to find if it is the
transfer or the transmission. Just use the old pipe to the ear trick to
find the noisy box. You could do that with the truck running in place.
