Does Jet fuel harm Diesel Engines?

Hi Kevin
You may find the info you are looking for by checking for it under Google.
Otherwise the Army Natick Labs had some papers on it in the late 80's early
90's right before the Kuwait Campaign. At the time the Army decided to
change everything to a single fuel from the Kitchen burners to the vehicle
engines all the way up to aircraft for logistics purposes. They called the
project the K Fuel project. In the end the standardized fuel became Jet A
which was then used in the Apaches and other helos, all the vehicles from
Humvees up to Hemmets, the new MKT field stove burners and all the newer
Herman Nelson type space heaters. The last things they changed was the
space heaters, the MKT burners and the lanterns from gasoline. Everything
then was able to burn the same K Fuel or Jet A during tactical situations
except the lanterns which went to small propane tank fuel. This simpified
supply issues. All the military equipment is designed to deal with the
lower lubricity. The only issue is that the diesel engines put out a little
less power than when running on No. 2 diesel fuel due to the lower BTU
content per pound but the 10% or so was not a big issue. Once the units
were able to utilize civilian diesel fuel it was used wherever possible for
cost purposes.

Hope this info is of interest.

Glenn

No problem. Used all the time in the Army. Read up on the "K Fuel" single
fuel initiative.

I have spoken to several people, that claim that Jet Fuel may be used in NHC
250 and other Diesel engines, such as Dodge Cummins Diesel without any harm
to the
engine or seals of the engine. Does any one have any input on this opinion?
If they do, does any one have any verifibale data on the use of jet fuel in
Diesel engines? Kevin Strain (415) 440-4044 kstrain@earthlink.net
