According to TM 9-2330-202-14&P (the M101A2 and M101A3 technical manual)
the dry torque value for 1/2 inch fine thread grade 5 bolt is 85 foot
pounds. The wet (lubricated) torque value is 76.5 foot pounds for the same
bolt. Do not tighten one all the way down and then do the other one.
Instead, alternate tightening the bolts with ever increasing torque, until
both sides reach 85 foot pounds. Although the TM is not for the M101A1, the
torque values remain the same.
An alternate method is to use 4 knuckles on a 1/2" ratchet.

Subject: [MV] M101a1 Bolt Torque Question

The axle U bolts on the M101a1 trailer. I have an old sheet that lists
the torque at 85ft lbs for the 1/2" fine thread. But with the U bolt,
would that be 85 on each side, or 40 and 40???

Does anyone know what the U bolts should be torque to or any other
tighten specs??

Chris
