Actually the Tow truck has multiple plates to cover what is being towed. So
that may be a bad example for a Q

I think the issues is some state nickel and dime you on every item that is
on the road, every camper, and or trailer, IE Item. Including a log
splitter.

Where other states are more relaxed and say some types of items that have
tires and can be towed don't need a plate.. like a log splitter.

The best scenario is that you are correct for the state that the truck-car
is plated in, and having a Drivers Lic for the same state as the plates on
the truck-car "Assuming you aren't a commercial long haul driver". And
being nice to the cop who Q's the non plated item.

And to the whole CDL no CDL thing .... If you have a big truck to drive,
maybe getting the CDL endorsement wouldn't be a bad thing.

Equipment is not a vehicle. It's equipment. Even if it's on a trailer. Does
a car towed behind a tow truck in MA have to have plates?
