24 volts & fuses

Fellas,

I have a thoroughly buggered rancher's M38A1 which I've recently recovered from a barn & I'm putting it together for use as "technical"; a light-weight, heavily-armed aggressor force vehicle to assist in training the US Army reservists preparing to go to Iraq. (Yeh, I know. A POS Toyota pickup would be more realistic, but if I gotta have it in my driveway when not in use, I'd rather it be a former MV.)

Anyway, George Baxter's crew at Army Jeep Parts kindly warned me of the dangers of employing 24v systems with deficient wiring (i.e. the wiring has turned to crap or was cut to ribbons) due to risk of fire, rogue elephants, genital warts and a variety of other maladies too grave to mention in polite company.

I cannot justify buying a new wiring harness at this time, so I've cut the wiring back to where it was wrapped. What remains is still servicable & I know what goes where. I want to install a modern fuse block but frankly, I'm clueless as to what amperage fuses I should be using for each system. Does anyone have any idea how I go about figuring this? At the moment, my primary concern is the ignition and charging systems as we always run completely blacked-out so I'm not fooling with hooking up any lights at this time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
TJ Smith
