Re: [MV] ASSISTANCE REQUESTED & The MVPA

I disagree.

I think it is important for an organization to know the reasons why some
people involved in the hobby aren't joining. And it is not the same as
voting. The MVPA is a business. If I don't like Walmart, I don't have
to buy from them to earn the right to complain. Not buying from a
business *is* the most effective way to force them to change.
Complaining in a public forum is a close second. Kent is following the
capitalism playbook step-by-step. So is Bjorn, for that matter.

Member discounts on tools, tires, or paint; member rate insurance; a
nationwide help list as a part of the upcoming membership directory; a
deal with AAA; negotiating reduced rates on tire shipping through motor
freight carriers - those are good things that the MVPA could be doing
but isn't. Doesn't matter if the person who says it is a member or not.
I'm a member, so the fact that they *aren't* doing those things isn't
enough to keep me away. They are still decent ideas, though.

I guess what I am really trying to say is that an AARP member can get a
1/2 price donut 24/7 because the AARP cracked the skulls of donut CEOs
worldwide. I don't see the MVPA cracking skulls! Where are *our* 1/2
price donuts, people?!?!?

Relax - I'm kidding about the donut thing.

Better topic:
Took a 5-year old neighbor and his father for a ride in my M62 this
evening. You could barely hear the Continental 602 over the seemingly
endless squeals of delight. The 5-year old liked it too.

Also learned a simple but important lesson -
We stopped for gas. While I was pumping, I didn't notice the tiny car
that pulled up on the other side of the wrecker. They had their window
down. When I fired up to leave, they got a blast of exhaust that would
have killed an acre of prairie dogs. I was very embarassed and have
vowed to, in the future, check for unseen cars in the exhaust trajectory
and to wait or warn.

I hope that you are all having a good evening.
