I have to agree, it was a peaceful August day in 1979, I was working on my
first jeep, my daughter was just a few weeks away from being born when the
Dowager Lady Brabourne ( who lived in our village in Kent) stopped at our
gate to ask my (then) wife how things were going, just days later this
charming, gentle woman was blown up with Lord Mountbatten by the IRA whilst
on holiday in Ireland.

IRA terrorism touched all levels of British society. We all know about
Noraid. Lets leave it at that.

One of the Shoreland level 5 armoured Landrovers has just been placed on
www.milweb.net in the Armour section. The initial spec for these vehicles
was to withstand bullets from an M1 carbine....... which seems a bit
bizarre.
These and more often earlier variants were a common sight on the streets of
Northern Ireland. Nowadays they are popular with the press in trouble spots
around the world. This one I think is ex CNN. Co-incidentally, this months
Classic Military Vehicles has a serious look at the Shorelands, including
the actual one advertised.
