Kenny,

Our museum has a set of those that were made up in the local Army shop.
They consist of the two tail-light housings mounted on home-made
brackets that slip over the bumperettes on the towed vehicle, and are
then clamped in place with a bolt that is threaded into the back side of
the bracket. The light housings have the standard military rubber
connectors on them, and the shop made up a cable that runs between the
lights, so that they can be clamped to the left and right bumperettes.
There is a four wire rubber cable that is plugged into the housing
connector cable and it is draped over the towed vehicle from the rear to
the front, and anchored as needed. This cable has rubber military
connectors on the end of it, and it is connected to a standard military
trailer plug and cable. The whole assembly is carried in a home-made
wooden box and it weighs about 50 pounds. It is durable, however. I plan
to make one up for my wrecker, but I am going to go a little lighter. I
plan to take a standard boat trailer light and wiring set-up and
fabricate some mounting brackets for the light housings. I'll replace
the bulbs with 24 volt units. I already have a military trailer plug and
cable that I modified by connecting a standard boat trailer car-end
connector to it. All I will need to do to use it with the wrecker will
be to plug the boat trailer connector into the mate on the military
trailer plug and cable. I figure that the whole thing will weigh a
little over 10 pounds. I'll carry it in a 25 mm ammo can. I also have an
amber flasher with a magnetic base and a 50' cord. I carry that on the
wrecker and mount the flasher to the rear of the towed vehicle. All I
have to do is clamp the two wires to the + and - posts on the battery
and I have a rear warning light on the towed vehicle. I carry that in
another ammo can. I don't use my wrecker on the public roads very often,
but it is nice to have the proper lighting when I do.

OK Gang, a while back I was asking about the towing lights that strap
onto the back of a towed vehicle. Somebody had a set. Big question! Is
there a long attached cable or just a plug so that a cable can be
attached? I just bought a set on Ebay and they're NOS but were dropped
and one composite light is broken. Easy fix and the price is right. The
pic wasn't too good so I couldn't see how the cabling is made Kenny
