Hi Dick
Another more convenient way if you do not want to get involved with the cash
is you can have Western Union route the deposit electronically to a bank for
you. You do not have to give them your routing number. They make the
arrangements with your bank over the telephone and confirm that the deposit
has been made. Your bank then places it in your account that you specify.
This is useful for transactions in the many thousands of dollars where cash
is not convenient. Once again it is not reversible buy the payer. All of
these services cost a little more but are paid buy the buyer. Up to 5% as
opposed to Payal at 2.9% but it is an option for security when selling a big
ticket item. The only other way as has been suggested by other guys here on
the list is to have them send a certified cashiers check and then wait until
your bank has said it is irreversibly cleared . Then ship the item. If its
an "in person" sale where the person comes to your place and wants to pay
for a vehicle and then leave with it, I tell them to cash their check and
arrive with the cash in hand Period unless I know the guy and trust him.
Once you have been ripped off by a scumbag then you take these precautions.

There's a definite difference between a WU money order and an all-cash WU
transaction. I've always been able to pick up the cash at WU in an all-cash
transaction.

That's strange. I was able to have the 10 G's wired right to the Western
Union Office where they presented it to me in cash. No money order
involved. I guess it pays to set the whole deal up in advance and then I
think there will always be some level of worry in these non-face to face
payment deals.

Not the case at all when accepting their Western Union Money Orders. As
I found out the hard way, Western Union representatives will NOT cash
their own money orders, and insist that they be deposited in your bank
account, in which case again if there is fraud on the part of the
sender, the money still gets taken out of YOUR account in the long run
to cover their behinds. I for one refuse to ever use Western Union
services again, and also specifically refuse to accept them in payment
for any auctions I sell stuff in.
